Racing Experience

Beginning in 2013, Sophia Storey has had a passion for racing. Starting with karts, she found quick success while moving through the ranks. Since then, her passion has driven her to sports car racing.

Karting Career

Sophia Storey began racing karts in 2013 at the age of 7. Racing quickly became her entire life, spending every weekend at the track. She raced at the club level until she moved into Jr. 2 at the age of 11. She then started travelling to races all over California, gaining all the experience she could to move her career forward. She began racing nationally at the age of 13, scoring the Screaming Eagle award at the 2019 IKF Grand Nationals. From then on, she continued to travel the country, eventually earning an IKF Grand Nationals Duffy in the Sr LO206 class in 2020 and finishing on the podium in two classes in the CKNA North division in 2021.

Sophia made the transition from karting to cars in 2022, where she found early success racing Spec Miata.

Spec Miata was a relatively easy transition for Sophia, as she earned multiple podiums within the first season. She placed 3rd in Teen Mazda Challenge and 4th overall. After two years in Spec Miata, she moved into the Spec MX-5 car. This was a seamless move, and one that she would take a liking to. Sophia spent the first half of 2025 building her very own Spec MX-5 car, and while she spent the rest of 2025 testing the car and making it to a few races, she plans on going into 2026 more prepared than ever and ready to succeed.

  • 2020 Battle at the Brickyard Sr. Medium 4th Overall

  • 2021 CKNA North Division Sr. Medium 2nd Overall Championship

  • 2021 CKNA North Division Sr. Light 3rd Overall Championship

  • 2022 NASA Socal Spec Miata 3rd TMC Championship

  • 2023 NASA Socal Spec Miata 2nd Overall and TMC Championship

  • 2024 SCCA Majors Western Conference 5th Overall

Sophia’s Other Accomplishments

  • Driver coaching karters and Spec Miata drivers- all ages and levels 

  • Analyzing and reviewing data and in-car video with Spec Miata drivers 

  • Repairing, maintaining, and tuning both Spec Miata and Spec MX-5 cars as well as karts 

  • Machining and rebuilding a Spec MX-5 engine

  • Spec Miata tire testing for Hoosier and Toyo Tires 

  • Testing and development for RLV VLR kart 

  • Testing and development for Predator Ghost kart engine 

  • 4 Automotive Technology Associate’s Degrees

  • 2 Automotive Technology Certificates

  • ASE Master Technician

  • Smog Inspector and Repair Technician

  • Ford Certified Technician in multiple areas
